On September 9, 2012, GBF&Co’s team enjoyed Kara Laricks debut of her Spring 2013 collection. Kara Laricks is the first winner of NBC’s Fashion Star. I tuned into Fashion Star specifically to see Kara Laricks designs. Every single week I was wow’d with her edgy but retro designs.
Terron Schaefer, a buyer who represented Saks 5th Avenue on NBC Fashion Star was also smitten with Kara Laricks. Throughout the show, several of her collections were purchased by Terron Schaefer. Terron Schaefer is responsible for branding and creative direction of Saks 5th Avenue. I realized from the very beginning Kara Laricks is something special, clearly Terron would agree.
Laricks first New York Fashion Week debut was held at Pier 57 in New York’s infamous Meatpacking District. Models stood on wooden blocks, striking poses as we snap photo’s and took video footage. I had many favorite pieces, a shark tail dress worn by Mariah. The shark tailed dress reminded me of a mod spin on the baby doll dress. Orange flair pants that I call gaucho’s. Kara’s famous masculine style collars and lapels. I am truly obsessed.
I have extremley high hopes for Laricks. I hope the buzz doesn’t die off like other reality show celebrities. I have studied fashion since the mid 80′s, and I know Kara Laricks has that Je ne sais quoi. My only concern is how her runway looks translates to wearable clothing for the modern women. Kara styles her clothes to be in her own image, androgyns with a bit quirk. Which I love and respect. From a professional stand point as a wardrobe consultant, I see Kara’s designs, as High Fashion. I am dying to see her designs styled to attracted a broader audience. I can’t wait to see what the buyers purchase from her collection for Spring 2013. We at a Girls Best Friend and Co will be rooting for Kara and recommending her pieces to our more adventurous clients. Click here to see Kara Laricks complete Spring 2012 collection.
