For over four decades, the Gap clothing store has been the forerunner in creating the preppy casual look. This retail giant has solidified its place in American fashion and our closets by providing high quality basic pieces at affordable prices.
On the one hand, the Gap’s style philosophy has stayed pretty close to its roots. On any given day, you can walk into their stores or log on to Gap.com and find a wide array of staples such as cozy tees, just-right denim, easy day dresses and the like. What’s more, Gap provides these pieces for everyone-men, women and children-so we can all have the chance to step out in classic style. Furthermore, I still look forward to their innovative commercials promoting their newest innovations on tried-and-true classics. Come on, I can’t be the only one who remembers how Gap heralded the return of the skinny black pant by crafting an ad featuring Audrey Hepburn’s Funny Face dance being performed to “Back in Black by AC/DC or “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles.
However, while Gap sticks faithfully to its style M.O., it still manages to keep up with the times. Recently, Gap launched Styled by, a collection of daily looks featuring well-known style bloggers in their favorite Gap picks. Furthermore, Gap stays tuned into the hot looks of the day by offering their take on the emerging printed denim trend and spicing up their athletic line by going neon, in addition to collaborations with emerging online retailers such as Threadless Tees and fashion legends such as Diane Von Furstenberg. Add in the fact that Gap provides additional products such as fragrances, loungewear, intimates and cosmetics, and you have a company poised to infiltrate every aspect of the all-American wardrobe.
